The Birkins painting is inspired by the iconic Hermès bag created in 1984 after Dumas, Hermes Executive Chairman had a chance encounter with British actress and singer Jane Birkin who complained about needing a bag large enough to carry her essentials and those of her young children.
The painting is tribute to Jane and the bag she inspired by using the bag’s locking buckle as a collar and the Twilly scarf sometimes used to wrap the handle of the bag. Jane Birkin passed away in 2023.
